Civil Rights Group Targets Bravo Over ‘RHOA’ Fight

Civil rights group ColorOfChange has a bone to pick with Bravo over its African-American centered programs in the wake of Sunday’s “Real Housewives of Atlanta” reunion, which saw Kenya Moore attacked by Porsha Williams.

“After weeks of promoting the RHOA reunion altercation, on Sunday executive producer Andy Cohen finally condemned the violent behavior of cast members — completely ignoring the staged hostile environment that provoked the altercation and the troubling pattern of violent, stereotypical portrayals of Black people across many of Bravo’s Black reality franchises,” reads the statement, obtained exclusively by The Hollywood Reporter.

“We’ve been in contact with NBCUniversal last week verbally and shared concerns in writing — specifically about this Real Housewives of Atlanta confrontation that was coming up,” Arisha Hatch, campaign director at ColorOfChange, tells THR.

The group would like to see Bravo enact policies similar to what VH1 has in place for “Basketball Wives.” In 2012, the network and producers enacted a no excessive physical confrontations policy for the series’ LA and Miami franchises.

Hatch says ColorOfChange is not calling for the cancellation of “Real Housewives of Atlanta” as the show — violence aside — does contain positive images of African-American women and families.

From the Real Housewives of Atlanta reunion to the second season of Married to Medicine, the physical violence displayed during Bravo’s Sunday primetime lineup was deeply alarming. After weeks of promoting the RHOA reunion altercation, on Sunday executive producer Andy Cohen finally condemned the violent behavior of cast members — completely ignoring the staged hostile environment that provoked the altercation and the troubling pattern of violent, stereotypical portrayals of Black people across many of Bravo’s Black reality franchises.

Research shows that dehumanizing portrayals of Black people on television lead to real-world consequences for Black folks — influencing how we are treated by doctors, judges, teachers and lawmakers. No matter how entertaining, this should be the last fight between Black women that Bravo profits from.

Tami Roman Opens on Losing Her Mom: ‘If Only She Were Still Here’

Tami Roman & MotherBasketball Wives” star Tami Roman opens up about having to watch her mother’s health deteriorate as she filmed the last season of the show.

Losing a parent is extremely devastating, especially with the world watching. Although Tami could’ve pulled back from the show during this time, she felt that this is part of her story that needs to be shared.

“We all put our hearts and souls into the show and opening our lives up for all the world to see, no matter how difficult it may be,” Tami wrote in her blog. “For me in particular, watching this season is bitter sweet, as so many facets of my life have changed. My mother is no longer here and someone I called family is no longer a part of my life.”

From the season 5 premiere, fans of the show can already see that Tami is starting this round of “Basketball Wives” on a rather stressful note.

“To see my mother on screen and taking her medical journey with her was very difficult for me. At times I hurt, times I cried and there were times that I was angry with her for getting sick,” Tami shared. “It was truly an emotional roller coaster for me that I would give anything to ride now…if only she were still here.”

While Tami really misses her mother, she was able to pull a valuable life lesson from the painful experience.

“The passing of my mother has taught me that things are ever changing whether you want them to or not. There are times when people will depart from your life by choice or by force and I have begun to accept that thought in most areas of my life.

She added, “I have tried to stop fighting change and simply find the lesson I was supposed to learn.”

Shaunie O’Neal Wants to Be Better Example For Daughters On ‘BBW’

shaunie o'nealBasketball Wives” creator/star Shaunie O’Neal confirmed that for this upcoming season the ladies have made more of an effort to improve their wild behavior.

“For the most part, I think people were trying to do better, making an effort. I think that’s what’s most important. The effort is being made,” she told

“It’s not that we did a 360, that we’re coming in brand new and angels. Trust me, there are some moments,” said Shaunie who may have bumped heads with newcomer Tasha Marbury, based on previews of the new season

The most important thing for Shaunie, despite of all the drama, is to try and be a good example for her daughters and other young viewers.

“I’m a mom of two girls…What I teach them at home, I want to show them,” she said. Although they don’t join her to watch the show, she said they hear about what airs from classmates and friends.

On this season we will get to see Shaunie display signs of compassion for her co-star Evelyn Lozada as she copes with the domestic violence incident with her ex-husband Chad Johnson.

“It was rough. It’s a whole lot of crying. It was very emotional,” said Shaunie.

We are all pretty familiar with the incident, but for Shaunie … on the show it was new.

“A lot of it was us hearing some things for the first time…It was so new when we were filming,” said Shaunie who felt helpless when listening to her friend’s painful story.

“I’ve never been through anything domestic violence related. I was just more like a vessel for her to talk to. I didn’t know what to say,” she admitted..

“You’ll see a lot of growth. Filming this season, I felt the growth,” she said. “This is like a mirror. We’ve been able to look at ourselves for four seasons, and now going into the fifth, it’s like, ‘I gotta do better.”

Evelyn Lozada And Chad Johnson Finalize Divorce

After a few intentional delays, Evelyn Lozada and Chad Johnson are officially divorced.

Earlier today, a Florida judge granted Chad and Evelyn’s request for a divorce, and Evelyn’s lawyer, Michael Gildenreleased a statement following the decision, saying:

“Evelyn and Mr. Johnson were divorced this morning in an uncontested final hearing.

“My client is a single woman and looks forward to her future.”

The former couple was married on July 4 in a lavish wedding ceremony that was filmed for an upcoming VH1 reality series “Ev and Ocho,” which has since been pulled from airing. But 41 days into the marriage, things turned sour when Evelyn accused Chad of head-butting her after an argument.

Chad was arrested and released (not only from jail but also the Miami Dolphins), but was formally chargedwith misdemeanor battery last week.

Evelyn filed for divorce shortly after the incident, but up until last week when he filed his own papers, Chad refused to sign the documents to dissolve the marriage, reportedly hoping to reconcile with his estranged wife. Clearly, that didn’t happen.

Over the weekend, Evelyn appeared on Oprah’s OWN network on the season premiere of “Iyanla: Fix My Life.” The two-part episode earned the network its highest ratings to date, and showed Evelyn speaking withIyanla Vanzant about her failed marriage, the domestic violence incident, and her past behavior.

After remaining silent since her very public domestic dispute with new husband Chad JohnsonEvelyn Lozada has released a statement on the incident.

In the statement, Evelyn says she is disappointed in Chad’s actions since the altercation and thanked fans and family for their support.

“It is with great sadness and much trepidation that I release this statement addressing the domestic violence incident that happened this past Saturday. I am deeply disappointed that Chad has failed to take responsibility for his actions and made false accusations against me, it is my sincere hope that he seeks the help he needs to overcome his troubles.

“Domestic violence is not okay and hopefully my taking a stand will help encourage other women to break their silence as well. I’m grateful to my family, friends and fans for the outpouring of support during this difficult time.”

Chad was arrested and charged with simple domestic battery for allegedly head-butting Evelyn after the two got into an argument. For his actions and involvement, he was released from NFL team the Miami Dolphins.

But the fallout has continued, as VH1 made the decision yesterday to pull the couple’s upcoming reality show “Ev and Ocho” from the network’s fall lineup. The series was centered around their July 4 nuptials but VH1 now says it has no plans to air the show in the future.

Also, condolences to Evelyn, whose brother-in-law Anthony Ochoa passed away yesterday after his long battle with cancer. Evelyn addressed his death yesterday, saying, “Anthony was an amazing husband, father, and brother-in-law. He will be dearly missed.”

Stoudemire’s Fiancée Describes Romantic Proposal

All eyes are on soon-to-be basketball wife, Alexis Welch, who will be tying the knot with NY Knick Amar’e Stoudemire.

Although the couple already has a family (three kids), and have been together for at least 10 years, Welch is finally letting people in on who she is.

The pair met when they were both 19 years old, right after he was drafted to the Phoenix Suns. Alexis was a star athlete who was just excited to meet a man who was much taller than her 5’10: stature in heels.

They met in a private room, where underage folks were forced to hang, at a Nelly party in Phoenix, where Alexis was living at the time.

“He was wearing a Kansas City Chiefs Joe Montana jersey,” says Welch. “I’m originally from there, so we started talking about Montana when he played there. I’ve always liked guys who were taller than me when I wear heels.”

After leaving Arizona, the two kept their relationship going with home cooked meals and lots of fun.

Now they’re engaged and ready to jump the broom.

About the proposal, Alexis said it was super romantic, under the stars in France. It started off as a trip filled with cognac tasting and a visit to Paris, where they stayed at Le Meurice Hotel Belle Etoile and stopped in at a Kanye Jay-Z concert.

On the last night in Paris, she described the proposal:

“We went back [to the room], and there were rose petals leading to a balcony with a 365-degree view of Paris. We walked out to the twinkling lights of the Eiffel Tower.

“He had an acoustic-guitar player. He had a saxophonist. This is another side of Amar’e that people don’t get to see. I’m just getting teary-eyed talking about it.”
