Gloria Govan Ready for Season 2 of ‘Basketball Wives: LA’

Even though her business is all the way out there, Gloria Govan says bring on another season of “Basketball Wives: LA.

“We definitely had our moments, and our fights, our altercations, our blowups, but I’m proud of them. There were many occasions we could have thrown blows or water… So, I’m proud of them. I think they really brought it, and I think that’s why we got offered a second season,” she told WBLS radio host, Egypt.

Govan isn’t a new face to the franchise series. She was a part of the original program “Basketball Wives,” but had the most issues. She then vowed never to return. But when she and her now former fiancé Matt Barnes were approached with the LA edition, they reconsidered.

“Matt got traded to L.A., and we came out to L.A., and we just got the opportunity,” she said about her decision to do the series. “The creators of the show said, ‘Hey, you’re out in L.A., if you get a group of girls together that we feel like would make a good show, then there you go.’”

And about her rocky relationship with Barnes, the current instability is not a problem so much, as she’s getting a little time to herself to refocus. She also mentioned that when it comes to returning to the show, Barns isn’t as much a part of the equation as he used to be.

But she also admitted that the instability is in part due to the drama going on with the NBA.

“It adds some added stress. You look at your money differently. You look at your situation a little differently: your 401K, the kids’ college fund. This is his contract year. He’s kinda going back on unsure territory,” she said. “I think that definitely had something to do with it.”

Gloria Govan on Her Break Up with Matt Barnes

Break ups don’t have to be so terrible.

Reality show star Gloria Govan is a testament to that notion, as she recently split from Matt Barnes. Although the couple is no longer a couple, their relationship plays out on television every week on VH1’s “Basketball Wives: LA.”

But it’s not getting her down none. In fact, she says life is good.

“I’m happy with where I am now,” she told VH1.

Her announcement of the split came on Tuesday after the couple has been together for years, produced two children together, and making the move to Los Angeles.

“It hasn’t been an easy ride moving across the country twice, having kids at 21 when I just graduated college; it hasn’t been easy,” Gloria said, adding that the pressure of the NBA lockout has also been a huge stress on her former fiancé. “But we’re still friends and we’re still working things out and I wish him nothing but the best.”

All in all, the mother of two’s outlook is pretty optimistic and so is her sister’s.

Laura Govan is rooting for their reunion and thinks they’ll wind up together.

Gloria isn’t planning to date anyone any time soon. She’s just taking the time to refocus and get things back in order.

Did Matt Barnes and Gloria Govan Actually Split?

Gloria Govan recently took to Twitter to share her impatience for rumor starters after word started circulating that she and her man Matt Barnes split.

Supposedly the basketball player grew weary of her “reckless talk” and left her, and right before her big “Basketball Wives” debut tonight on VH1.

People are always going to try and find a way to bring you down,” she tweeted late last week, neither confirming nor denying the breakup. “Your rumors aren’t going to ruin my last day in paradise, sorry!!! SMH

But it’s not far from believable because the couple’s relationship has been called into question before, being that they were supposed to have wed last year. But just days before the nuptials were to be said, the ceremony was called off.

Also, there was talk about a domestic dispute between the two, forcing Matt to later clear up domestic violence charges last year October.

On the subject of being “in paradise,” when one of her 28,000+ followers asked Gloria if she was on a cast trip, the reality TV star just tweeted, “ :-D … Lol I’m pleading the 5th.”

“Basketball Wives: LA” premieres tonight, Monday Aug. 29 at 8 p.m. E/P on VH1.

Also former Miami cast member Gloria Govan, fiancée of Laker Matt Barnes, will star in the LA series, alongside her sister Laura Govan.

Gloria Govan Denies Abuse by Fiancé Matt Barnes

Gloria Govan of VH1′s “Basketball Wives” is coming to the defense of her NBA boyfriend Matt Barnes, who was arrested Wednesday on suspicion of domestic violence.

She also refers to the Los Angeles Lakers player as her “fiancé,” despite the fact that her scheduled August wedding was abruptly cancelled.

“Any accusation of domestic violence are false,” Govan said in a statement issued Thursday by the couple’s publicist Laura M. Wright. “My fiancé, Matt Barnes, has never physically abused me or my family.”

As previously reported, Sacramento County sheriff’s spokesman Tim Curran says deputies responded to a disconnected 911 call late Wednesday afternoon to the home that Barnes shares with Govan and found her with visible injuries. Curran says Barnes was arrested after deputies determined he was the primary aggressor.

The athlete, released after posting a $50,000 bond, is scheduled to be arraigned Sept. 13.

Barnes also denied the accusations in a text to reporter Bryan May of Sacramento’s News 10, stating, “U know any domestic violence situation 9 outa 10 times the man gets arrested. That’s the case here I was the victim but still got arrested. No matter what I say people are gonna think what they want…“

NBA’s Matt Barnes Booked for Domestic Violence

Los Angeles Lakers forward Matt Barnes, the former fiancé of Gloria Govan of VH1′s “Basketball Wives,” has been arrested on suspicion of domestic violence, Sacramento County authorities said Wednesday.

The name of the woman was not released, but she was described as “a woman who lived with him and with whom he had a dating relationship.”

Deputies arrested Barnes after responding to what was termed an incomplete 911 call from a residence around 4:16 p.m., according to sheriff’s spokesman Sgt. Tim Curran. Deputies found Barnes and a woman both with visible injuries, but took Barnes into custody after determining he had been the primary aggressor, said Curran.

Barnes was booked into the Sacramento County Jail on suspicion of domestic violence and maliciously obstructing the use of a telephone line, reports the Associated Press. He posted a $50,000 bond and was released.

He is scheduled to be arraigned on Sept. 13, according to authorities.

Barnes, 30, defended himself in a text late last night to Sacramento’s Channel 10 reporter Bryan May, stating: “U know any domestic violence situation 9 outa 10 times the man gets arrested. That’s the case here I was the victim but still got arrested. No matter what I say people are gonna think what they want…”

He later posted on Twitter “DON’T LET YOUR EARS WITNESS, WHAT YOUR EYES DIDN’T SEE!!!”

In April, Govan told Essence Magazine that she and Barnes were getting married in August, but the wedding was called off.

Govan told VH1 of the cancelled ceremony: “This is nothing super dramatic. There was no infidelity involved, no window-smashing, nothing of the sort.”

Gloria said that invitations were mailed out, and 48 hours later guests got a text telling them the wedding is off.

Barnes, 30, signed a two-year contract worth $3.6 million with the Lakers in July as a free agent. The former UCLA player started 58 games last season for Orlando before signing with the Lakers.
